Yesterday the Jr. Boys Volleyball team travelled to Regi where they played an outstanding set of matches. Having fallen down 2 games e4arly, the crusaders quickly regrouped to play an incredible 3rd game where there defense was flawless. The boys managed to come back from a 24 - 19 deficit to get 7 straight points in a 26 - 24 win. The 4th set was just a nail bitter too see from the sidelines and some unfortunate miscommunication cost the boys a 26 - 24 loss. Valiant effort young men.

Congratulations to the Junior Boys Volleyball team who finished 1st in their difficult pool last Friday at their tournament in Napanee.  The boys played extremely well, defeating Frontenac AND Regi to earn 1st place and a by in the semifinals.  The boys defeated Regi for a 2nd time in the semis in a close match, but couldn't keep their momentum going into the finals.  After playing 5 matches in a short period of time, the boys fell short to a big and strong Frontenac team again this year.  Congrats on a successful weekend guys!  Practice at 2:45 tonight as we travel to Sharbot Lake tomorrow.

The Crusaders travelled to QECVI last night, and bumped their record to 3-0 with a 4-set win.  Exceptional serving allowed the team to earn 23 service aces.  This match was played by many of the younger players on the squad, who all stepped up to challenge the veterans for their spots on the court.

The 1st set saw Jesse Hearon notch 4 of his 7 aces, while Zac Hutcheson, Noah Steele and Adam Alcorn hit multiple kills.  Rookie setter Chris Kimmerer showed how well he can serve earning a couple of aces as well as running a strong offense.

The 2nd set was a nail-biter!  The boys had to play through tough defense by QECVI as it was a very close set.  Jake Falcao, Johnny Besselink, Brandan Nadeau and Mitchell Barr had kills, while Ian McLatchie and Johnny B Goode were top servers.

The 3rd set was a tough one, as we gave a lot of points to QECVI on errors.  Alcorn earned a bunch of points and Hearon continued to rack up the aces, but when the dust settled, the score favoured the Raiders.

The 4th set was a different story; one the Crusaders know well already.  They “sent those hicks back to hicktown”, holding them to 13 points (only 8 of which they earned).  Tyler Larouche, Tyson O’Toole, Alcorn, Lawson, Hearon and Barr showed the rookies why they are seniors.

The boys are in Napanee this Friday at a tournament, where they will see Regi, Frontenac, and North Addington for the first time this season.  They hope to play with the same intensity that they have thus far, as it will continue to lead to great things.

Stayed tuned for more updates from this week!

Wendesday, September 28 2011,

The Junior Boys travelled to LaSalle last night and played exceptionally well, earning their second win of the season in as many games.  Their high energy throughout the match allowed them to rise above the Knights and win in 4 sets.  Adam Lawson was very consistent and allowed his team to earn many kills, while Jesse Hearon stepped up as Libero when he was called upon.

In the 1st set, Tyson O’Toole earned 2 kills and Mitchell Barr earned 2 service aces.  The set was won handily, at 25-15.  The boys played great defense and had only a few mistakes.

The 2nd set was quite close, as the Knights took it by a score of 25-20.  Jonathan Besselink was a powerful force in the middle, with a strong serve and his mad hops.  Adam Alcorn earned 2 kills and Troy Kenney also earned the Crusaders a few points.  Ian McLatchie was consistent with his serves, as well as his play at the net.

The Crusaders stepped up their game in the 3rd set, wining 25-14 with style.  Mitchell Barr had a great set, with 2 kills, 4 aces and 1 block, while O’Toole, Kenney, Tyler Larouche and Noah Steele also added kills.  The team again played great defense, and limited their errors.

The final set was won 25-18 by the Crusaders with a huge shout out to the bench for their enthusiasm.  Chris Kimmerer stepped in as setter and played extremely well, allowing his teammates to rack up more kills.  Ryan Kinsella played strong in the middle earning a kill, a block and a service ace.  Brandan Nadeau, Jake Falcao and Zac Hutcheson played left side and showed strong prowess and awareness on the court.  Zac had a big run of serves which allowed the Crusaders to flourish.

The boys look to continue their success this Thursday at QECVI at 3:30PM as well as at their tournament in Napanee this Friday.
