Pre Season
Crusaders Fall to Black Nights

The Holy Cross Crusaders played The Lasalle Black Knights in a pre season test match on thursday April the 9th and looked like they needed to shake off some major cob webs as they were shut out 30-0. After the game the starting full back Brendan Kelly was asked what happened and with high hopes he said; "We have a lot of new players this year and we really need them to learn the game so we can get our system up and running again. We can take this as a learning experience and go hard next game."

Panthers De-Clawed
On April 16th Holy Cross traveled to the Memorial Centre to face off against the Regi Panthers in a Pre-Season tester. The Crusaders played hard from start to finish and won the game 20-5 with tries scored by Julian Brisebois, Jacob R Smith (don't forget the R), Kevin Bevins, and David Heroux. The Crusaders finish the pre season with a record of 1-1 and a tough season schedule lies ahead. The regular season kicks off at Holy Cross on Wednesday April 22, come out and support the home opener.

Regular Season

Crusaders Fall to Golden Hawks
April 22nd was the start to the 2009 rugby season for the senior rugby team. The first half was a very close contest with the crusaders trailing by 4 at halftime. After a couple of crucial errors Sydenham pulled ahead and the Crusaders started a comeback with a tri scored by Corey Flude but the effort was too little too late as time expired shortly after. The captain of the team Julian Brisebois had this to say after the game. "We knew this game was going to be a complete toss up, we are closely matched teams and the whole team knew the team that was going to win this game was going to be the team that made the least mistakes, and we happened to make the most mistakes tonight." The boy's next game is on Monday April 27 against last years KASSAA finalists, the Lasalle Black Knights.

Black Knights Prevail
The Crusaders fell short to the Lasalle Black Knights April 27th with a score of 22-0. The score does not show how close the game actually was. Holy Cross held off the Black Knights to only a 5-0 halftime lead. However later in the game their short numbers started to show as the starters were running out of gas Lasalle put in some fresh legs and were out ran later in the game to run up the score. Julian Brisebois said "we controlled the ball a lot of the game, and came very close to scoring two tries but we made some bad mistakes that got us penalties right close to the goal line, if we scored them the outcome of the game could have been a lot different" The next kick off for the Sr. Boys is wednesday against the defending KASSAA champions - Napanee.

Losing Streak Continues
Holy Cross made the journey to Napanee on April 29th and suffered a big loss of 34-0. After the 0-3 start the Crusaders are hoping for a win against the KCVI blues on May 4th so they can stay in the playoff run as this week is the last week of the season for the boys. Come out and watch the last home game for the boys May 4th kickoff is at 4:30

Crusaders Snap Losing Streak
The Crusaders have finally marked their first win on their record with a 7-0 win against KCVI last night. The tri was scored by the team captain Julian Brisebois who scored off of an 8 man pick off the back of a scrum near the KCVI goal line. This win was the first home win in just over two years for the seniors. The next game for the seniors is a tough match against the Frontenac Falcons on May the 6th at Frontenac.

Falcons Fly Over Crusaders
After coming off their first win the Crusaders took the trip to Frontenac looking to upset the undefeated Falcons who were 4-0 at the time. Holy Cross came out strong and trailed by only a single tri at half time as the score was 12-5. The lone tri for the crusaders was scored by Julian Brisebois. Despite the loss the boys looked strong with long runs by Luke Ball, Mike Witters, and Tyler Grant. The boys final season game is against the LCVI Lancers at LCVI on Friday May 8th at 3:30.

Crusaders Fail to Make Playoffs
The Crusaders went to LCVI in a must win situation. The game was very back and forth the entire first half until some heated words were exchanged between the two teams and starting prop Will Lefort got a red card for fighting. After the fight both players from the team were kicked off the field and the crusaders were forced to play 14 on 14. Once 14 on 14 play started the Crusaders were forced to switch from a power game to a speed game which in turn didnt work out to their benefit as LCVI scored three straight tries to sink the Crusaders playoff hopes.
