HCTV Presents...Flashback Video Listing
The Flashback Video Project brought a number of HCTV videos "off the shelf" to be displayed on the HCTODAY website throughout the current year to show current students and alumni some of the amazing work produced over the 25 year history of Holy Cross. These videos are listed below:
12 Days of Christmas, December 2002 - This is the Twelve Days of Christmas - Holy Cross style! This video, produced during the double cohort school year of 2002-2003, features a large cast of characters including former Holy Cross English teacher John Walsh and French teacher Dave Dodge, former cafeteria manager Janita, members of the OFSSAA 2002 Championship Girls' Senior Basketball team, student teachers, members of the swimming, cheerleading and football teams, members of the band, current teachers Matt Gervais and Tony Clark, international students and former principal Wayne Hill.
The double cohort was the result of the elimination of Grade 13 in Ontario. The 2002-2003 school year featured two graduating classes - those who graduated from the old system where Grade 13 was the final year of high school and those who graduated from the new system where Grade 12 was the final year of high school.
25th Anniversary Video Trailer - This is the trailer that will begin all of the 25th Anniversary documentary videos produced by Mr. John Esford's Communication Technology Classes. It shows clips from a number of videos that were produced under the Flashback Video Project.

First Win For the HC Football Crusaders, October 1988 - After a winless inaugural season and an 0 and 3 start to their second season, the Holy Cross Junior Crusaders recorded their first ever win in mid-October, 1988 against the Bayridge Blazers at Bayridge by a score of 20-6. This video shows a some game action along with the post-game celebration of the team, the coaches and the fans. The Crusaders stuck to a ground game which did not make for exciting video but was very effective against a fairly small Bayridge squad. Along with the celebrating players, you will notice the cheerleaders in their white sweaters and green skirts!
Girls' Volleyball Over the Years! - See highlights of some of the Girls' Volleyball Teams over the 25 year history of Holy Cross. This video has clips from the 1990, 1992, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 teams.
Holy Cross Academic Awards Ceremony, 1992 - This is footage from the 1992 Holy Cross Academic Awards Ceremony. The format at that time was a little different than our present Honour Roll Breakfast. Instead of having the honour roll students attend a breakfast ceremony, the entire school attended an assembly in the gymnasium. There wasn't a keynote speaker and the ceremony included a number of musical performances and skits by some of the students. The ceremony concluded with words of congratulations from our principal, Mr. Maurice Daniel.
I Am A Crusader!, Fall 2002 - Produced in the fall of 2002, “I Am a Crusader” was created for the Fall Pep Rally in preparation for the Football and Girls’ Basketball games versus arch-rival Regiopolis-Notre Dame. Appearing in the video are a number of students from the International Program, Juanita from Browns Foods, Fr. LaBelle, many sports teams and clubs and a whole host of Crusaders.
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat" , Fall 1993 - Here is the 1994 Crusader Spirit (Yearbook) description of the Holy Cross Arts Department Fall 1993 production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat":
Organized by Mr. (Phil) Ridley, this year's drama production, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, became Holy Cross' best play yet. Eugene Conners was magnificent as Joseph and the beautiful voices of Jessica Gonzales, Finnie Jesson and Anna Marie Wilson narrated the story. The brother's antics brought the story to life, and the wives and dancers filled out the stage with great choreography. The band was practiced to perfection, and the chorus, which numbered approximately 60 students, including several from Mother Theresa, added the finishing touch. The backstage, lighting, and sound crew were right on cue. The musical was watched by over two hundred people (a performance), all who thought it was outstanding. With lyrics by Tim Rice and score adapted from Andrew Lloyd Webber, the music ranged from country and western, to reggae, to pure "Elvis", suiting everyone's tastes. The musical will always be remembered for the great times had by all. Thanks to everyone involved for making it happen.
Highlight video edited for the play at the time by play Student Technical Director Stephane Gagnon. Stephane graduated from Ryerson University's Radio and Television Arts program and he is now employed as Chief Television Production Engineer at the Roger's Centre.
The Memorial Through the Years, 1993 to 2009 - This is a highlight video of some of the best moments from many of the Memorial games from 1993 to 2009. For the first years the schools took turns hosting the game. In the late 1990's, the game's popularity with the fans encouraged the organizers to shift the location to Bartlett Gym at Queen's. In 2005, the decision was made to return to having the two schools host the games in order to emphasize the true "high-school sport" experience.
First Paul Halligan Classic Senior Girls' Basketball Game - HC vs Regi, October 4th, 2001 - The 2001 Senior Girls’ Crusaders defeated the Regiopolis-Notre Dame Panthers 47 - 36 in front of a roaring Crusader crowd in the first ever "Paul Halligan Classic on October 1st, 2001. Over $2000 was raised towards finding a cure for breast cancer.
This team had a remarkable season as they finished with a 26-6 record and their first ever KASSA/EOSSA Championships along with two tournament wins. This successful season laid the groundwork for the team’s unbelievable run to the OFSSAA Championship in 2002.
Team members were Dani McCollough, Julie Roantree, Alana Korczynski, Jocelyn Manion, Jill Holmes, Shannon Muldoon, Laura Desveaux, Laura Cooney, Amanda Piribauer, Jessica Piribauer and Ashley Kingham. Coaches were Mrs. Kelly Dixon and Mr. Alfie Demelo.
Remembrance Day, 1993 - This was the 1993 Remembrance Day Ceremony here at Holy Cross. A number of students in drama classes taught by Mr. Phil Ridley performed Remembrance Day themed monologues. The very moving ceremony ended with “Taps” being played as a member of the armed forces along with HC students in the reserves salute.
Mr. Ridley taught drama at Holy Cross in the mid-nineties and was instrumental in the production of the fine dramas and musicals presented in these years. He also coached the Junior Football Team. The young children at the end of the video are Mr. Ridley's son and daughter.
Rock and Roll, April 28th, 1988 - "Rock and Roll" was the first musical presented by Holy Cross staff and students. A large percentage of the approximately 300 Holy Cross students took part in the production. This show was presented in the KCVI Auditorium on April 28th, 1988.
