Instrumental Music

Instrumental MusicHoly Cross has a thriving instrumental music program, headed by Mr. David Orser who teaches all band classes.

Students are introduced to music in grade 9 where they are given the opportunity to choose an instrument within the context of the concert band. No prior musical experience is necessary. As the semester progresses members of the grade 9 band perform at both the Arts Genesis Awards at the end of May and also travel to Toronto to participate in the Trills and Thrills Festival at Canada's Wonderland.

Instrumental MusicFollowing their introduction to music in grade 9, students are able to further pursue musical studies at the grade 10/11 and 12 grade levels. Students in these grade levels participate in the symphonic band and the jazz ensemble. Performance opportunities include the Katharine Splinter Memorial Christmas recital, the Kingston Kiwanis Music Festival and a yearly five-day arts enrichment trip to an international music competition. HC ensembles have performed in Orlando, New York City, Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Washington D.C., Annapolis, and Quebec City. These ensembles, in addition to many first place honours, have been recognized for their excellence in overall esprit de corps (pride, fellowship and loyalty).
